I like telling stories. This is convenient for my job and comes in handy in life. Last night I went out for drinks with guy who a friend set me up with (because actual dating is necessary for the dating story I’m working on). We chatted for awhile about random stuff, then realized we both loved traveling and had done a lot of it. For the rest of the time we just told travel stories.

So, I don’t watch the show Parks and Recreation on any kind of regular basis, but I keep taking flights where it’s one of the shows you can choose to watch so I’ve seen a few episodes recently and find it hilarious—anything that mocks people who take themselves too seriously is good by me.

I’m part of a group in Charlotte that is planning the city for 2020. It’s kind of cool. We’ve been split into groups based on things like “arts & entertainment” and “urban living.” The groups have a total of three meetings together over the next six months. I’m in The Parks and Recreation and Environment group.The group is composed of a lot of people who are actually part of Charlotte’s Parks and Rec department. Obviously, I was thrilled. I had high hopes that it would be similar to the show.

The crowd didn’t let me down. Even a little bit. When it came time to discuss our initiatives and ideas, the first proposal put on the table was that we change the name to The Envionment and Parks and Recreation.

I almost fell out of my chair. Are you f’ing kidding me? After covering up my initial loud snort with a cough, I quietly sat through the rest of the meeting, finally understanding why getting things done in any form of government is so hard.

We’re supposed to do home work for next time and come up with our own ideas to bring to the group. I think my first idea will be that we rename the group (which will be on it’s 2nd of 3 total meetings). I’m thinking The Recreation and Environment and Parks. Or maybe The Parks and Environment and Recreation. God, I don’t know. I’ll definitely have to give this a lot more thought.
